EFFECT OF ENDOMYCORRHIZA AND ROOT KNOT NEMATODE ON THE GROWTH AND CHEMICAL COMPOSITION IN BRINJAL

Abstract


Interaction between four endomycorrhizal fungi (Glomus spp.) and the  root knot nematode, Meloidagyne incognito was studied in brinjal (Solamim melongeua).  Mycorrhizal inoculation was observed to reduce the root knot nematode infestation.  Mycorrhizal plants had higher total soluble protein, phenol, total and reducing sugars.  The possible role of some of these chemical constituents in suppressing the development  of root knot nematode is discussed.
