PROBABLE FORAGING BY CIVETS, Paradoxurus jerdoni BLANFORD (CARNIVORA: VIVERRIDAE) IN COFFEE ESTATES OF KODAGU (COORG)
In December 2006, while surveying for frugivorous bats on fruit crops which are grown as intercrops coffee estates of Kodagu a fecal pellets of a mammal which consisted only of a coffee seeds was found. These fecal pellets were
approximately 2 cm in diameter and had the excreted coffee seeds closely packed. From literature it was found that the probable causal animal could be the Asian Palm Civet, (P jerdoni Blanford) which frequent tropical forested
habitats that included Coorg (Kodagu). (Pocock, 1939; Corbet & Hill 1992; Mudappa, 1998), particularly at an altitude of 1152 m between 12°26
'N latitude and 75°47 'E longitude.
