Abstract


Red palm mite, Ruoiella indica Hirst (Acarina: Tenuipalpidae) is a major pest of areeanut causing damage 10 leaves. It is widespread in tropical and
subtropical regions throughout the old world. It also infests coconut, date palms and ornamental palms. Both the adults and nymphs are found in large numbers on the lower surface of leaves. Puttarudraiah and Channabasavunna (1956) first recorded this mite on arecanut seedlings at Hebbal, Bangalore.
